Mummers Parade Philadelphia Pennsylvania

Every New Year’s Day, the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia Pennsylvania marches down Broad Street.  If you are looking for a reason to visit Philadelphia, the Mummers Parade is the perfect reason.

The Mummers Parade Parade is a Philadelphia tradition.  The Mummers date back to ancient Rome and Egypt.  Today Mummers dress up in fancy costumes, play string band music and parade through the streets of Philadelphia to welcome in the New Year.

The Mummers Parade Philadelphia 2009 will start in South Philly near the Washington Street.  From South Philly, over 15,000 mummers will march to City Hall where they are judged.  The judges judge the Fancy Brigades, String Bands, Comics and costumes.

The Mummers are a unique Philadelphia tradition.  While visiting the Mummers Parade you might also want to visit the Mummers Museum where you can learn more about the history of the Mummers both in Philadelphia and around the world.  There is no better way to welcome in the New Year than watching the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

P.S.  Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles for getting into the NFL playoffs.  The Philadelphia Eagles will have their first NFL playoff game in Minneapolis Minnesota against the Minnesota Vikings.  I am a huge Eagles fan so I wish Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and Andy Reid good luck in the playoffs.
